Australia lose 2nd spot to India after 2-1 home-series defeat

19 Jan 2021

In another good news, team India has toppled Australian and become the new owner of the number of two spot in the ICC Test rankings. India chased down a target of 328-run on the final day of the Gabba Test and won the series 2-1 on Tuesday.

India (117.65) are now just 0.79 points behind top-ranked New Zealand (118.44), who very recently completed a whitewash against Pakistan. Australia are now placed third with 113 points. England (106) and South Africa (96) occupy the 4th and 5th spots respectively.

After getting all-out for 36 and losing the series opener against Australia by 8-wicket, India fought back valiantly to script an emphatic comeback win in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne. Thereafter, India pulled off an iconic draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) before breaching Australia's Gabba fortress. Australia had not lost a Test match at Gabba since 1988.

India next face England in a 4-Test home-series starting February 5.
